5 ways to STOP YELLING at your kids

(p.s. you're not a bad mom!)

by Hannah Keeley

Let me ask you this question, “Does yelling at your kids make you a bad mom?” No, it actually makes you a fighter.

Here’s the trick, you’re just not fighting the right way.

I’m going to share with you five ways you can fight the RIGHT way and stop yelling at your kids.

5 ways to STOP YELLING at your kids

Seriously, y’all can ask any of my 7 kids… yes, I said 7! I don’t yell at them. I just don’t.

When I started practicing these 5 things you’re about to hear, it’s not like I had to wean off of the yelling or I had to catch myself or anything like that. It was like a paradigm shift. All of a sudden I saw myself in a different way, and therefore I didn’t yell anymore.

Now understand this, when you feel threatened, you yell. It is an evolutionary response. Our brain is wired to do that. Same reason why you get scared and you go, “Ah.” You scream, right? It’s an evolutionary response that is hardwired into your brain.

So, you have to understand, you aren’t a bad mom for yelling, you’re a fighter! For some reason you feel there’s a threat. There’s a threat to your authority as a mom. There’s a threat to your stability, to your identity. Something’s happening there to threaten you. That’s why your voice gets louder and that’s why you get angrier. That’s why you elevate, because there is a threat and it is just your brain responding with a fight-or-flight mechanism.

What you’ll learn:

• 5 things that are sure to help you stop yelling at your kids!
• What it means to step into the spotlight as a mom.
• Do you have a “frozen face”?! And, no, I’m not talking about botox!
• Why yelling at your kids does not make you a bad mom!
• Then… what does yelling at your kids make you?
• What is a “Flight Attendant” voice? This one may surprise you!!
• The battle is within you.

Proverbs 15:1

“A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.”

"People hear the scream, never the message."

As a mama, I know we don’t enjoy yelling at our kids. We don’t get any pleasure out of screaming at them or raising our voices. Listen, maybe all you need to do is take a moment, or take a day, and take care of yourself? Inside of MMU, we have ‘Self-Care Fridays’ the last Friday of each month. That’s when we intentionally carve out that particular day to treat ourselves and replenish ourselves.

Wanna know your challenge? Your challenge is to do just that!

  • – Pick a day, maybe once a week, or once every other week, and pamper yourself. Get a massage, get a manicure, go to Starbucks and read for a few hours. Whatever you choose, make sure you are taking that time to really pamper yourself and replenish.

The truth is, your family needs you. You have little ones looking up to you! But they also deserve to have the very best version of YOU! Whether you feel it in the moment or not, know this, you are doing your very best, Mama!
