Hannah’s Amazing 2¢ Salad Dressing

Jan 26 2013

Full

I still don’t understand why anyone would buy salad dressing when you can make your own. It tastes so much fresher, it doesn’t have all the chemicals and additives, and it is sooo cheap. This simple salad dressing costs less than 2¢ a serving—try to find a deal like that at a store! Also, it tastes delicious and you can customize it however your heart desires.

I published this a couple years ago, but changed it a bit and wanted to post it again. This dressing is really a winner!

Ingredients:

1/4 cup vinegar
3/4 cup oil
1 Tbsp mayonnaise (not low fat)
1/4 cup water
salt and pepper

Give the vinegar, oil, and mayonnaise a good whirl in the blender. Season to taste. You can also skip the blender, put all this in a jar with a lid, and shake it up reeeeaaaaaal good!

Italian Dressing: Use balsamic vinegar, extra virgin olive oil and Italian seasoning.
Mexican Dressing: Add some lime juice, cilantro, and a pinch of cumin.
Asian Dressing: Use rice vinegar, substitute with some sesame oil, add some soy sauce, and a pinch of ginger.

My 9 yr old loved making this salad dressing on his own. He used a stalk of celery for stirring! I forgot to tell him he didn't like celery. Funny, when used as a tool they forget the little things. This dressing was way too good for just salad and veggies, he also dipped his "shrimp" in it.

Thank you for this dressing mix!
Making homemade salad dressing was a heritage my dad passed down to me. I agree that you can never find something this great in the store! I've made mine with the balsamic vinegar, red wine vinegar, and a secret ingredient my dad taught me...spicy brown mustard! It will be fewer calories than the mayo, but you may want to cut back on the vinegar, since mustard is vinegar based. Super-de-duper delicious!
