Zone 3: What's Hiding in Your Medicine Cabinet?

This week we are working on Zone 3, our bedrooms and bathrooms. This is the time that we do the deep cleaning and decluttering, one zone at a time! Remember, yard by yard life is hard. Inch by inch, life's a cinch. It's true. Managing your home is so much easier when we do it one zone at a time.

Our special project this week is decluttering our medicine cabinets. Of course, I've never really understood why these are called medicine cabinets. Mine should be called, "everything under the sun cabinet." Go ahead and open those doors and start tossing. All the lotions you bought but never used, put in a zippered plastic bag and stash them away for a time when you're out and need some more. Do not buy any new stuff until this stuff is GONE (great way to save money!). Check the expiration dates on all medicine and toss the stuff if it's no longer good. And as far as all the odds and ends, give them a place. There should be no miscellaneous categories in your home. Everything needs a home.

And here's one more tip: for all the little items that you can't find a place for, small candle holders are great to keep those things contained. And don't buy any candle holders. Instead, next time you use up one of those scented candles from the grocery store, save it and dig out the wick with a screwdriver. Melt any remaining wax in the microwave and clean it out with some paper towels. Now you have the perfect "odds and ends" holder and didn't have to buy anything!

Groovy!

Another way to clean out a used candle is to pop it in the freezer for a half hour. After your timer dings, stick a knife in it and "unscrew" it from its holder!
