Rattle those Pots and Pans
Feb 06 2012
We're back in Zone One this week and we are deep cleaning and decluttering our kitchen, pantry, and dining room. Since we did our pantry not too long ago, we're going to venture into our cabinets and get all that old cookware out and sort through it. Don't fret this! Seriously, it will be quicker than you probably think it will as long as you get on task, stay on task, and wrap it up.
So, throw open those cabinet doors and drag them all out. Now, keep in mind that if you haven't used it in a year, then you probably don't need it. Go ahead and donate it to charity. Remember, this trick about zoning your home is that whatever you give away, you can use that tax write-off money to buy something nice for your zone. The last time I decluttered my pots and pans, I had a laundry basket full of items to donate. I tallied it all up and claimed a $35 tax deduction. I then went to the store and bought a new frying pan that I had been eyeing and a casserole dish. I know, it may not sound like a lot to you, but it was a nice gift to myself (and my zone). Plus, it totaled up less than $25, so I came out ahead!
And when you sort through your stuff, make sure you don't go so quickly that overlook stuff. One time, I was sorting through all my cookware and came across an old waffle iron that I did not use that often, so I gave it away. A few weeks later, I went looking for my tortilla maker and realized that I had given it away (big time oops...I thought for a moment it was a waffle iron!). So, if any lucky mom out there came across a tortilla maker at a thrift store for a total steal, you can thank me!
