We were sitting around the table the other night enjoying dinner. It was a simple soup that I pulled together out of leftovers in the fridge. Sure, it wasn't anything fancy, but it was filling and delicious. I thought about how many families don't even have the luxury of some "leftover soup." It's easy to take things for granted, but the reality is that many families are going hungry.

My husband works second shift so often it's just me and our 3 kids eating together. But, we still make sure we sit down and eat together, even if it's just sandwiches and salads. We say a prayer, talk about school, our day, what we're going to do tomorrow and whatever else is on our mind.

We gather and first we says Thanks. Thank you for the beautiful day and each one of our children say a thank you. Even the two year old says "thank you for my haircut". Afterwards we play a game at the table - rhyming, ispy...Its lots of fun and keeps everyone engaged happy and eating!!

If the weather is nice, we eat on our screened in porch - makes a normal family dinner seem somehow more special.

I let my kids help me cook then they set the table and act like they are the servers and my husband and I are the customers. They make signs and menus and each has a job to do!
