Apr 15 2012

Full

If you are looking to make your dollar stretch further, then don't miss this Wednesday Workshop. It's going to be April 25th at 8pm, so set your alarm NOW and come back to this page to listen in. I'm talking with Crystal Paine, the author of "The Money-Saving Mom's Budget" and the founder of the Money Saving Mom website.

Can I just say something?

I LOVE this woman!

And you will, too. She is amazing and her true heart is to help people (especially moms) get in control of their finances and not let their finances control them.

Leave a comment below and share your tips on saving money and sticking to a budget, and you'll be entered to win one of TWO of Crystal's books (It's a winner; trust me. She gave me three, but I'm clinging to one of them for dear life).

So don't miss this Wednesday Workshop! And share this link on Facebook to invite your friends. Hey, we're all in this together!

To maintain my overall budget I keep an excel spreadsheet for my paycheck dollars and any other funds that come into the house. This way I know what needs to get paid for every paycheck and what I have left for savings and whatever I want money.
And now I learned to make sure to live on cash only. It's getting easier living this way

I plan, plan, plan!! Organization is key to staying on budget. I look at my calendar a year at a time to plan purchaces, events we attend and gift buying. I look at my accout everyday to make conscience decisions on spending money. I use cash, never credit!! I also do little things to save money like wash my car at a "do it yourself"place instead of a drive through. It cost 1.75 to wash and vacum compared to 12.00 at the drive through kind. It all adds up. I could go on forever on this subject. I think you have to find a since of joy in saving money or you won't be sucessful at it.

I need help on sticking to a budget, but as far as saving money I have two things I do:
1. I follow coupon match-up blogs and only buy on-sale or with a coupon (saving a minimum of 50%)
2. I don't go into danger stores (Oh, Target, how I miss you!)

I could really use Crystal's book! :D

I could really use some help with my budget. Husband lost his job last July, went to school for his CDL and found a job. In the middle of that happening we had our second child. Husband found a job but it is a huge pay cut for us. I am looking for every way to pinch pennies. Count me in!

I've begun meal planning. If I have a plan in writing, I'm far more likely to stick with it and not grab takeout.

Thanks for the giveaway! My tip is to sit down and think of small things that you can save money on each week...a dollar here and there. I was amazed a couple of months ago when I did this exercise that I could think of enough ideas to save us $50 a week, fairly painlessly. That's $200 a month! We are very frugal, so I was shocked to see that I could manage to squeeze this much out of our budget. I think so often we look for big things when lots of little things will add up to some great savings all the same and often with less 'ouch' factor.

I need all the help I can get. Have one son going to college in the fall and another son starting college the year after. (what were we thinking when we had them 17 mos apart?!) My husband took a cut in pay and we're making what we were making when we were first married (and now we have 3 kids) sometimes I don't know how we do it but we do! I guess it's because people like you that take the time to help us along the way. Thanks! I've been clipping coupons long before it was the thing to do. I also do ebay as a side job. Not sure if I can say this - but I use mypoints.com to earn points for giftcards - I get mostly restaurant giftcards so that we can go out to dinner once in awhile and not feel guilty for the treat.

I stay away from stores until I have planned a weekly trip there. The less I go, the less money I usually spend. Also, we have been doing an "eat what you have" month once every 6 months. After 5 months of good Couponing and budget shopping, we usually have a lot to choose from and out usual grocery budget heads right into savings! I love Crystal, and would love a copy of her book....I have not been blessed with an opportunity to read it yet!

Best ways I've found for us to save money/stick to a budget:
- Use cash. We spend a LOT less without really even thinking about it when we use cash.
- Shop less. The more times I'm in a store the more money I spend.
- Be creative. Rather than running to the store every time I "need" something (whether it's groceries, something for the kids, cleaning products, whatever) I try to make do with what we've got on hand. 95% of the time I find I didn't really *need* the item.
- Learn to be content and grateful. Being satisfied and happy with our life and things is key for us in money management.

Money Saving tip that I have begun doing. Plan your trips and errands out. Scheduling and planning wisely each stop you make helps cut down on the fuel you use. I try to get my money's worth out of each tank of gas.

Every two weeks on payday, we go out to eat at a restaurant as a family (we are a family of 6). That is our time together to have fun and appreciate everyone's hard work at school/home. This cuts down on eating out too often when everyone knows and can expect such a treat.

I forgot to mention that when we do grocery shopping we always shop the ad and only buy what is on sale. We also buy mu;tiples of an item we use a lot to avoid return trips to the supermarket during the week. For example we usually use 2-3 gallons of milk a week so when we do groceries on Sunday we pick up 2 gallons, that way we're not going back and spending $20 on impulse buys 3 times a week.
