Wednesday Workshop: Gwen Smith

Jan 21 2012

Full

Ever have a hard time trusting God? Yeah, who doesn't, right? Fortunately, I wrangled Gwen Smith to help lead up our very first Wednesday Workshop for mamas. She is a singer, songwriter, cofounder of Girlfriends in God, author of the book, Trusting God, and let's not forget--she's a mama, too!

This woman is awesome. So mark your calendars! Be here, Wednesday evening at 6pm EST for this amazing workshop. Set aside an hour for your faith to be totally transformed. I promise, mama, you're not going to want to miss this.

I'm also giving away a copy of her book, "Trusting God" this week so leave me a comment with any challenges you may have in this area and make sure you tune in to the workshop to be transformed.

Here's the replay, check it out:

I keep trying to figure out what God wants me to do with my life when maybe he just wants me to be me and continue to support my family, friends, and neighbors as best I can.

Can't make the workshop, I teach a class of 6 1st-4th graders on Wednesday nights at church. Would love to read her book. I have been a part-time church secretary for 17 years and am now looking for full-time work because my children need me in a different way now. Trusting God and following His leadership is so hard! Job security in today's world is hard to let go of.

Trust!!! Trust is an issue that I think almost every person has. Some of us trust people too much, others not enough. Trusting God is not necessarily my issue. It is knowing to put my trust in Him first before my own understanding and reasoning that I have difficulty with. It is like that little voice in my head that reasons and analyzes everything first before you can come to any conclusion. For example: I have a very close and dear friend, but for some reason I don't even think to ask them for help because I can figure this problem out on my own. But then the friend says they can help. My reaction is that I never thought to ask or lean on them for help because I thought I had control, but now that they are asking me to trust them, I hand it over without any reservations. The same goes for my trust in God at times. I have to talk it out, reason the situation in my head, brew over it, push it to go my way, and then when it doesn't and I very clearly hear God shouting at me to trust Him and give the situation to Him, I pause, take a step back, and very willingly hand it over to Him. How do we change this habitual pattern and in every situation lean on God first, trust and listen to Him first before we rely solely on our own understanding?

My challenge is to trust God that I can have a career and be a good mother at the same time. Trusting God that I will get a job that will allow me to still have quality time with my daughter. Girlfriends In God Devotions are what helps to keep me going each day. Long live GIG!

Just when I think I have the trust thing figured out, something happens. so I posted a couple of affirmations around the house. It says "Trust Him". That needs to be my mantra. I do, I want to and I must. I am trusting that I am following His will and not my own. So often in the past I made it my own and then I get confused but when I turn to prayer and scripture I calm down. It's a daily journey. Sometimes an hourly one.

This past Monday was a frustrating day. Challenges at home.. I was telling God this situation belongs to you, when I finally surrendered to Him. Then the word trust popped in my head, as If God was saying, "Do you trust me, trust what I am doing in this situation?" I fell to my knees sobbing, turning to the one who knows what I'm going through. He is my only Hope, my Prince of Peace, my Redeemer!!

Hi Everyone! I am from Colombia and always enjoy GIG devotionals. I would like to say that I truly trust God but to tell you the truth there are times where I doubt and begin working in my own strength, like if God needed a bit of a help! He is almighty yet I fail ,I worry and start being wrapped in the lie that God is not to be trusted, If we truly believe the truth that God loves us, God is good, God always tells the truth, and God wants what is best for us,then we will not worry. 1 Peter 5:7 TLB says: "Let him have all your worries and cares, for he is always thinking about you and watching everything that concerns your" Getting the oportunity to know God more by reading: "Trusting God" represents a huge blessing .I´ll be grateful to receive a pdf and/or audionversion! =)

I have been so heavy lately, praying and fasting over some heavy ongoing issues in our home. Last week I felt that God was having me be still and know that He is God, and to trust Him as we walk through this dark time. A ladies Bible study has been a place of refreshment for me and though I'm not familiar with Girlfriends in God, refreshment is what came to mind when I saw that title. And couldn't we all use that mindset!

I am doing a study where I filled in a blank that
i am "suspicious of God". Whoa. that was a
shock to me. what does this mean? I love
God. I love his word. but maybe I am not
letting Him in. I look forward to learning more.
