This week's giveaway: Bonding Over Beauty

May 15 2011

Full

As a mama of four girls, we have beauty products out the wazoo (okay, maybe not out the wazoo That would be a bit uncomfortable). But I will say there there are cosmetics, curling irons, hair ties, bobby pins, curlers, and hairspray within twenty feet of every single mirror in the house. When I first came across the book, "Bonding Over Beauty" I thought to myself, 'now THIS is something I can totally dig!"

I love this book because it give a ton of awesome beauty tips and advice, but done so in a way that is totally not superficial and also in a way that is perfect for mama AND daughter. In fact, the subtitle says it all: "A Mother-Daughter Beauty Guide to Foster Self-Esteem, Confidence, and Trust."

Adolescence can be such a tough time to navigate for girls and they don't get much support from the media, which insists that you've got to be tall, thin, and pimple-free in order to survive. Erika Katz has done an awesome job of presenting beauty in a way that is fun and totall non-threatening.

Thank you, Erika, for helping moms everywhere help their daughters navigate through the beauty waters and come out shining!

This week, I'm not just giving away one copy, I'm giving away TWO. Leave and comment and tell us your best beauty tip that you and your daughter share and you'll be sure to enter.

For my girls, our only rule is "brush your hair before you leave the house." I think we need this book. :)

My Abigail, almost 6, is the youngest of three boys! She and I share a love for coconut oil. We use coconut oil after our baths all over to moisturize, even our faces. We also love the smell!

The best beauty tip in our house is Proverbs 31! I remind my 2 darlings (and the 2 boys, no doubt) that we take care of our beauty within as well as on the outside because we not only represent our family name, but our father God. We are children of the KING, so no excuses when it comes to taking care of our beauty!

For my daughter, I tell her she is beautiful no matter what she wears or how her hair looks. Her beauty is in her heart!

Oh how I need this book! Let me see. . . the best beauty tip. . . Hmmm . . . I have young kiddos so I always carry wet ones and often use them to wipe dirty faces that escaped my notice as we were scrambling out the house. I second the please brush your hair or at least make it look like you did :)

Loving God, loving others, and doing a lot of twirling together in twirly dresses and skirts, makes for a beautiful life.

My daughter is a girly-girl and watches everything I do make-up wise. That's a little scary, actually! One of the main beauty tips is wearing body lotion and keeping your face clean. Man, we need the book-sounds so fun! Plus, she looks for guidance and I want to give her the best advice! I also agree with the inner beauty and groomed hair comments!

I always tell our daughters and granddaughters to be proud to be a girl or woman and to always look their best by having their hair nice, some make-up on and making sure their clothes look appropriate for the occasion.

Ever since my girls, now 19 and 13, were little we have had a lot of fun bonding over pedicures & manicures! We indulge ourselves in this girly ritual, soaking our feet and giving each other hand & foot massages while chit chatting about what's going on in their lives. It can be relaxing and informative! I think it has also taught them that you don't have to spend lots of money to look good but you should take time to pamper yourself!!

At our house, we use lots of leave-in conditioner to tame the frizzies. :-) I love the sound of this book!

I leave a bottle of homemade lavender oil plus water in the car- sometimes I add a little sea salt- to revive my curly hair and tame my son's cowlick :)

This is the book for us. My daughters have just discovered the joys of
those little pink sponge curlers. You would never imagine the joy
a seven year old and a nine year old could share over something so simple.
I think this book would help me do more of this and bond with them
even more. I would love to win a copy! Thank you so much for all you do for us Moms!

Oh what fun, I have two daughters 7 and 11 and I tell them be yourself and dance when you can. We also make it a point to polish our piggies in a funky way when we can. Right now I'm sporting lime green and black zebra print and my girls have blue.

I have four girls and my advice to them is clean teeth, neat hair and a clean set of clothing every day, especially if you're going somewhere like church!
