The Marriage Ref…seriously?
Feb 20 2010
Okay, so there is a new show coming on television. If you haven’t heard about it by now it’s called, “The Marriage Ref.“ Here’s the premise—a panel of celebrities observe a fighting married couple, give their commentaries, and then turn it over to another celebrity to make the final call on who’s right and who’s wrong.
Seriously? Is that where we are as a society? Marriage is no longer a sacred union. It’s just means for entertainment. This kind of show not only says that fighting is normal in a marriage, but it is encouraged. There is little care for the hurt that happens as a result—in the wife, the husband, and especially in the children who look to their parents for reassurance and stability. We have sunk to a level where we can’t work through differences in a marriage, but we need a celebrity or a comedian to make the call. It seems as if people watch to make their own problems seem less, and lighten their own burdens for awhile. No, we should be expecting more for our marriages. It’s not about who’s right and who’s wrong. Aren’t we more mature than that? C’mon! This isn’t grade school. This is marriage. We don’t need a referee. We need restoration!
I would love to know what you think about this type of programming. Good, bad, whatever—leave your comments and let’s get the conversation started.
