The Great Soccer Kick-Off!

Sep 11 2010

Full

This past Saturday was the kick-off of the soccer season. And around the Keeley house, that's a pretty, big deal! I drove to the YMCA and saw hordes of kids and families all turned out and looking their soccer finest. All the soccer balls were in pristine condition and the jerseys didn't even have a smudge of dirt! There was one little girl on Klara's team that even had matching pigtails to go with her cleats and shin guards. It was all fine and well until one of the pigtails got stuck in the soccer net. Blair had to run over and get her unstuck!

I have to say, Blair is the best coach EVER! Sure, he knows the ins and outs of soccer, but it is so much more than that. He knows how to inspire kids and get them to love the game. And, I'm not even biased! If I was a kid, I would want him to be my coach. But, then again, we're married, so that would be pretty weird.

So, gone are the swimsuits hung up on hooks in the bathroom. The smell of sunblock has dissipated and left our home. And the floaties have found their home in the basement. In their place are the cleats with dried-up mud all over the bottom, the stinky shin guards that the kids forget to take off in their haste to run and play, and the water bottles that always seem to lose their tops by the time October hits. Come one, come all...grab your soccer ball.

The season is here.
