Not a Blade of Grass!

Nov 16 2010

Remember a few weeks ago when I told you in my newsletter that I had made a "To Don't" list instead of a "To Do" list? By the way, if you're not getting my newsletter, you can sign up HERE. Well, one of those "don'ts" was seeding my lawn for the fall. I just never seemed to have the time to do it. Things were way too busy.

Now, here it is...November. And my lawn doesn't even have a blade of grass. Not a single blade! As a matter of fact, I don't even think it's legal to call it a lawn. I'm not sure what to call it, really.

But I don't mind it a bit.

It says that I'm raising kids, not grass. And that's what's important to me right now. The lawn can always come later. One day, I'll be silver-haired, puttering around the house wondering what to do with my time. I'll probably send Blair's crotchity old bee-hind to the store to pick up a bag of seed, and I'll piddle around and scatter it outside.

Right now, I'm reading stories, putting on band-aids, picking up toys, and kissing foreheads. The lawn can wait.

Just wanted to send this along in case any of you mamas are feeling like you're just not measuring up to all of the household duties.

Fortunately, God is holding the measuring stick and He's looking at our hearts, not our lawns.

Talk About It!

That is so sweet and true. Your kids will not remember a perfect lawn anyway, all they will remember is being with you. I think your yard looks like a fall wonderland, super pretty in my opinion!

I'm using this state of mind to get me through the holidays. If I have the darkest house on the street because I'm having a loving joyful time with my kids, it's OK. If my kid's don't get to taste my re-creation of Aunt Helen's FABULOUS Christmas Cookies, they also won't see me as grouchy, horrible kitchen witch because I chose to bake and shut them out of my kitchen. Whatever I DO do for the holidays will be WITH them and will be a loving memory for us to treasure.
