Kubby's Big Day Out!!

Jan 17 2011

This past weekend, it was Korben (or as we call him, "Kubby's) special day. He had a birthday last week, so this weekend we were going to go anywhere he wanted. I guess you could call it his perfect day!

First, it was Chipotle for lunch (I had the veggie burrito bowl instead of the burrito...did you know how many calories are in that bad boy??). He ate an entire burrito! (as did most of his brothers and sisters). We are definitely an eatin' family!!

Then, it was Build-a-Bear (one of our very favorite spots). He was allowed to pick out any outfit for his bear and chose a magician's costume. It is so cute! It comes with a cute little magician hat, a scarf, and a robe.

After that, it was...Starbucks! He had a $5 gift card and bought his very own Cinnamon Dulce Latte. He said it was the best coffee he has ever had (for a kid that just turned NINE).

What a day! Kubby was definitely in hog heaven!

Do you mamas ever take your kids out for their birthdays? Where do you go? What do you do?

We usually have birthday week at our house. We have a special day at school where we'll bring lunch from their favorite fast food place. Another day Grandma will fix her favorite meal for them. On their actual birthday, we pull out the china and have a candlelight dinner with their favorite meal (even if it was tater tot casserole one year). The weekend we let them pick their favorite restaurant which is usually The Cheesecake Factory (where I split a meal with my youngest daughter). You would think that the older they girls get, traditions would change. Not in my house! Birthday planning is a two month long process for us so we usually have fun with it while it's here. They just get more expensive the older they get.

We always tell our children (3 of them!) that the birthday party IS their gift from us. Whatever Mom is doing to make that birthday party happen is the present, whether it be a homemade cake (which I gave up this year since little fingers kept finding their way into the fondant figurines), an ice cream social or manning a sleepover.

When we do budget to go out, we always talk about how long we planned for it. Talking about money is such a routine around here that my eight year old (:who also loves coffee:) asked me, last time we went out to eat, "So, guys, how long have we been planning this meal?" "All week," was our answer. Tto which she replied "Cool, thanks. It's really nice."

Gotta love kids.
