Kidz Bop 22

Aug 24 2012

Full

Here is the reason I like Kidz Bop. They play the same catchy tunes that other kids are listening to, but they don't have all the horrible messages that are in the songs. Whew!!! What a relief!

This week I'm giving away a free copy of Kidz Bop 22 to a mama who leaves a message on this post. And here's what I want to know--what is the one thing that bugs you most about today's modern music. Does anything bug you? How do you handle it? What kind of music do you let your kids listen to? I want to hear from you, Mama.

Leave your comments and one mama will be randomly chosen to receive Kidz Bop 22! Rock on!

What really bugs me about today's music: words that I don't approve of like swearing or using God's name in vain, or words about sex, that kids have no business hearing. Can't we just have some clean-cut music with decent words?

Ugh, I hate the "adult" themes. My kids are still pretty little, but thanks to Radio Disney and their friends they are aware of some songs that I feel are too grown up for them.

My family's current choice of music is "Mr Ray and the Sunshine Kids". It's a set of 50 kids songs. While I love to give my kids something good and clean to listen to, after a while I am hearing "Baa Baa Black Sheep" in my dreams!! There needs to be a happy medium between children's songs and the garbage they play on the radio today!! My daughter is almost 5 and my son just turned 2. They love to dance, and I have to admit, a lot of the songs on the radio do have a catchy beat, but I end up having to turn the radio down whenever they say anything inappropriate (which is usually half of the song..) and it ends up not even being worth it. My daughter caught on to my turning the radio down at certain parts and asked why. I told her it was inappropriate for kids. She then said, "So you just listen to inappropriate songs when we're not with you right?" Hmmm... Food for thought! Should I even be listening to this garbage??

I don't like the adult themes, feelings, situations etc. that is in music that is targeted to teens or preteens. WOW, not ready to talk about those topics with my 8, 6 and 5 year old girls. So we listen to what the girls call the "God channel". They play some contemp christian music. Casting Crowns, Selah, Mercy Me, etc. We LOVE them, and I love hearing my girls sing about Jesus.

Ug! I babysat an 8 year old the other day who asked me if she could play some of her "music" and dance with my kids. I thought nothing of it, and said "Of course!" (because, c'mon, she's eight!). It was all music that was way too adult (but really, should adults hear it either? I find it brings me down.) My husband, who also works from home, came into the kitchen and asked if he could accidentally break the CD player. Sigh.

I want my kids to be kids! We try and keep music as innocent and fun as possible around here.

What I don't like is that so much of the music has such catchy tunes, but the lyrics are so inappropriate....and then they get stuck in your head. We usually just listen to Contemporary Christian for this reason. My kids are still young so it hasn't been an issue up to this point. I would rather Scripture be filling their heads!

I actually like alot of todays music , some artists lyrics are kind of well gross (e.g. rhiannas "I might be bad but I am perfectly good at it" there is one line in there that is jusrt nasty) . But compared to what I grew up hearing on Mtv and the radio todays music is quite tame. Honestly I cannot imagine what my kids are going to think when they here N.W.A on the oldies station , I can imagine it now "mommy why did you guys listen to such angry music?" .So I think alot of todays music is rather tame compared to what I grew up listening to in the 90's.

I have been feeling like the lamest mom ever lately because my kids have such a love to dance and for rocking good tunes but I can't let them listen to it because of the lyrics. Then I go to turn on the christian radio and my kids just run away from me because the music is not music they can dance or sing to. Having this cd would be so awesome for me and my kids because I love to dance with them! I love to dance period! I have been praying for a God to give me ways where I can have fun with my kids! Thanks Hannah! I love your sight!!! You and your family are such a blessing!

What bugs me more about the modern music is that they don't say anything! If you pay attention to the lyrics you will find out the lack of meaning or the lack of inspiration. Nowadays all you have to do is come with a rhythm, and just say some nonsenses words, and there you got a hit. :/ I try to be selective on what kind of music my kids listens to, they are mostly christian music, or songs that has a meaning or a nice message.

The 'me' messages in songs, such as sensual messages are prevalent in today's music. We listen to Christian soft-rock a lot. I remind them to listen to music that God Himself would be honored by or okay with like classical.
