It's like Christmas in August! We call it "box day!" It's when we get our box of books and supplies for the upcoming school year. The kids get really excited, but not nearly as excited as me! For the next couple of days, I get to label the books and set up school (yes, it's fun!). It brings me back to when I was a little girl. I would gather up all the books I could find in the house, and put little envelopes in the back with cards sticking out of them. Then, I wouldn't let any one in the family "check them out" without signing and dating the card. I also charged them fines if they kept them out for over a week. Okay, so maybe I was a big pain in the bee-hind, but it was great training for me to become a homeschooling mom.
So, Box Day was officially this past Saturday. I've got all the books lined up neatly on the shelves and now I'm in the middle of organizing their lesson plans. The younger kids are chomping at the bit to get started and, of course, the older kids are acting like their a little too cool to care (but so far I've caught each one of them taking their books off the shelf and sneaking a peek inside).
Like I said, it's like Christmas in August.
Merry Christmas to all and to all a happy homeschooling year!
