Hannah Interviews Anita Renfroe

Jun 28 2011

Full

You know her from her famous "Mom Song." You know--the one sung to the tune of "The William Tell Overture." I went to her concert when she was here in Richmond, VA and cornered her for an interview. Sure, she was exhausted. She had only had four hours of sleep. She was probably hungry, too. And the last thing she probably wanted was to get cornered by me and a camera. But, like the amazing lady she is, she took it all in stride! She even went a little gangstah on me!! So I got the nitty, gritty on Anita for all of us mamas out there.

Check out her interview and some tips she gives on how to lighten up! I'm giving away her book, "Songs in the Key of Solomon" (the coolest--and maybe the only--devotion book that includes sex tips!). Leave your favorite tips on lightening up and enjoying motherhood and you'll be entered to win!

I love her! My kids &I like to watch funny videos on youtube and the mom song is one of our faves. My boys (11 and 13) really like Brian Regan's stand up too. Little league, big family and stupid in school crack us up & they can relate to it! When they get in trouble, they quote him with"that was not a good activity" and we all laugh.

One of the best ways I've found to lighten up is to step back & get alone a minute, whether it's in my room reading a Bible verse, doing a load of laundry, or getting in the great outdoors for a couple minutes. It can really recharge you, especially as you pray for guidance from the Holy Spirit to guide them in the way they should go.

I don't want to be remembered as a grouchy mama, but rather a godly mama, obedient to the Lord and leading them gently in the way of Christ.

Sometimes life gets to us all. When I feel overwelmed by life, especially when my hubby has been away several nights in a row, and I have the kids for serveral days without a break, I plan a special movie night for me and the kiddos. Even if the house is a mess and the dishes in the sink are overflowing, I make a special meal, or order a pizza, and snuggle up with my girls. I take time to just enjoy them and have fun.

I've heard "the days are long but the years are short". When the day seems really long......I remember that this day will pass and I need to savor it because God answered my prayer by making me a Mother and I am blessed.

My children are all grown and on their own...I look back and realize I should of let some things go, I was lucky enough to have pretty good kids. When I was really stressed, (after they were older) I would go into the shower and sing silly songs, the kids would hear me and start singing along, trying to sing loud enough for me to hear. Thankfully none of us were able to sing very long because we were laughing to hard.

I refuse to let the dishes in the sink or my work schedule keep me from having fun with my kids while they're little. So sitting on the floor with them and playing a game or wrestling with them is a great way to lighten up when I'm feeling stressed. After all, they are the reason that I do everything I do and I want them to grow up knowing that Mom took the time to spend with them.

Love Anita's books - They are one of the ways I "lighten up"! I can take a quick break and read a chapter and return to the job of motherhood with a more positive spirit.
