Hanging in Cape Cod
Aug 05 2010
We are hanging out in Cape Cod for a week, visiting Blair's family and having a wonderful time. Usually, people go on vacation so they can get away from the fast pace and spend some quality time with their family. But you and I both know what happens--they just bring that crazy pace to a different location. They try to see everything and do everything. They want to get their money's worth!
The thing about vacations is this--you really don't have to go anywhere at all. You can slip away on vacation anytime you want to. Anytime you still your heart and really listen to your kids, or anytime you clean up your home and place a beautiful bouquet on a table, you are going on a mini-vacay. I think the big problem with vacations is that people think it will "fix" situations. They don't.
The thing I am really enjoying about Cape Cod is not the sights we are seeing or the places we are going. I just really love listening. I enjoy having conversations with my kids about anything and everything. It's nice to have the sound of the ocean in the background, but you can put on background music anytime you want.
Instead of wishing to get away, enjoy where you are. Make a vacation happen today! Spread a blanket on the floor and read some books. Make ice cream sundaes and just sit around the table and talk. A vacation isn't about where you go. It's about where your heart is.
