Field Trip with the Family
May 30 2010
We finally finished school here at the Keeley Homeschool (doesn't that sound official). To celebrate, I took the kids to a park in Richmond called the Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens. I've never been there before; and it was definitely worth the trip.
A lot of the park is geared toward more...."mature"...people. For some reason, the elderly couple sitting in the meditation garden didn't really seem to appreciate the onslaught of seven kids. Go figure! Maybe they just weren't meditating in the right direction!
But they did have a children's park, which we hit pretty hard. It was complete with a treehouse and a water park. Of course, being a botanical garden, the flowers and foliage were stunning. But, seriously? When you're a kid, that matters about as much as the Dow Jones or coordinated clothes.
Kelsey ahd the camera, so at least ONE of my kids appreciated the flowers. Check out this picture whe took:

OH, and now for the drama:
Being the ultimate tightwad, I packed a picnic lunch to take with us. Of course, they had a cafe and such, but you know the deal. I like to hold on to my money, thank you very much. Karis decided to see what would happen if he splattered his sandwich with water from his water bottle. Well, then I brought out the cookies I had packed. But, you don't get a cookie if you don't eat a healthy meal (which included that whole wheat sandwich I packed for him). He decided to suffer through and cram the whole disgusting thing in his mouth and swallow it so he could get a cookie. GROSS! I'm pretty sure he did it more for the drama than the cookie.
Check out the video.
